How does Player Matchmaking work?
You get new player opponents, referred to as Blackguard mercenaries in game, when exploring the map and as occasional invasions on your map. Your opponents are selected by a matchmaking process that attempts to give you the right level of challenge.
Your opponents are selected from players with a similar matchmaking score. Every time you get a new Mercenary base on your map, either through exploration or invasion, your matchmaking score increases. Using 'Find new opponent', Headquarters level, experience level or Victory Points have no effect on your matchmaking score.
Matchmaking score will gradually decrease over time if you have several player opponents on your map. Therefore, if you are regularly matched with opponents you cannot beat, you will eventually get easier opponents. Only active players' matchmaking score is adjusted down, so leaving the game for a long period of time won't result in the game getting too easy.
How does NPC Matchmaking work?
You get new NPC opponents, referred to as Blackguard bases in game, when exploring the map and as occasional invasions on your map. Your opponents are selected by a matchmaking process that attempts to give you the right level of challenge. Unlike your Player Matchmaking, your NPC Matchmaking score does NOT decrease. As you defeat the NPC bases, increasingly more difficult ones will spawn.
How is loot determined for Player Bases? Will the loot change ever? What happens when the player makes upgrades/changes to their base? Do they loose all those resources? When a player’s base shows up on your map, the loot of that base is a “snap shot” of that players lootable resources at the time of the first scout. This loot never changes. The players base, however, will change as the player upgrades/moves/adds defenses. Feel free to strike with the enemy is weakest! ;-) Warning: While the player is online you can not attack them!
The loot that the player loses after you attack them is NOT the same as the loot you just gained. The amount that the player loses is determined at the time of the attack, based on the current loot they have. Depending on the time difference between the initial scout and the actual attack, the loot lost by the player and the loot gained by you can be substantially different.
I keep getting attacked and losing a bunch of resources. Can we have shields? Unlike Clash of Clans, Boom Beach does not have shields. As long as you are offline, your base is opened up to any numbers of attacks. While this can be disheartening, I can provide some tips to help you:
- Only raid when you need resources for you next upgrade. This keep your matchmaking score low while keeping your loot as low as possible.
- Upgrade your vault as often as possible. The higher level your vault the more it will protect from enemy raids. The vault will also protect a percentage (determined by the vault level) of the resources in your Residence/Sawmill/Quarry/Iron Mine.
- The resources coming in on boats from your resource islands are NOT part of the loot available for players to raid. They are completely protected. Remember, they DO have a limit to what they can store. Collect from them at least every 8-10 hours!
After 48 hour of inactivity, you will be taken out of the matchmaking pool, so players won’t find your base if they use the 'find new opponent' button, but of course if your base or one of your resource bases are already on their map, they can still attack you and take resources.
There is no limit to how many other player's maps your base will spawn on. This may mean 5-6 players may decide to attack your base within a short period of time, or you may not see any attacks while you are offline.
I got this warning about my base being interrupted by enemy attack, what does that mean?
After being online (in-game) for cumulative of 4 hours, your base goes into "offline" mode. You will get a warning in red right below your resources stating how much time you have left with your online time, if you are nearing that 4 hour mark.
After the 4 cumulative hours your base can be attacked by any player at any time. You can still play your game, modify your base layout (NOT recommended!), train troops, scout bases, attack both players and NPC bases. Don't worry you will not be interrupted DURING an attack if you decide to take down an NPC or player base.
This timer resets every day at 0:00GMT. So if you play for 4 hours straight right at 0:00GMT, you will get a notice stating: "Your game can be interrupted by enemy attack for 20 Hours"
I have no one to attack and I still need resources (gold/wood/stone/iron) to perform my next update, what do I do? Wait. Your islands will be slowly taken over by NPC and player bases. Don’t worry this is a good thing! The more bases you have on your map the more loot you have available to raid. Unless you are upping your medal count, a cleared map is actually a bad thing. The more you upgrade your radar, the more bases that will become available for you to attack. Don’t worry not all of you islands will be taken over, only a set number of islands can taken over at one time. Enemy invasions (NPC or Player Bases spawning on your islands) stop after 14 hours of not logging in to the game.
Who is Dr. Terror? When does he show up? How Many stage are there? Dr. Terror is an evil genius bent on finding the perfect base layout. Dr. Terror appears twice a week:
- After defeating Lieutenant Hammerman’s level 10 HQ, Dr. Terror will start appearing every Wednesday at 0:00GMT.
- After defeating Lieutenant Hammerman’s level 20 HQ, Dr. Terror’s Volcano Base will start appearing every Saturday at 0:00GMT.
There are 20 stages to his each of bases, each increasing in difficulty. Dr. Terror will stay for 24 Hours.
